LSD DIFFERENTIAL EVOLUTION 35/90 RACE

Mini Spares own Evolution limited slip diff with over 10 years success

No serious competitor would use a Mini on a race track or autocross course without a limited slip differential should the rules allow it. This original Mini Spares Evolution LSD is a massively upgraded and advanced version of the old popular Salisbury clutch-type LSD. It has improved clutch material and a unique design for smooth transitions between loaded and unloaded. This efficient design makes the EVO LSD easier and far more predictable to drive than the Salisbury. The plate-type diff design will NOT allow the wheels to loose traction even if one of them loses contact with the track surface. Ramp angles are 35/90 so the diff unlocks on deceleration for easier turn in.

This 'race' version of the EVO LSD is pre-set for full race applications but can be easily changed. (Available in Rally C-AJJ3387A and road C-AJJ3387B specifications.)Used now by all top racers for more than 10 years without failures - beware of copies.

N.A.S.A AUTOGRASSERS who race on r/h corners only, especially with special suspension/steering mods will have to change plate packs every 5-6 race meetings as permanent R/H corners lightens the left hand wheel causing unavoidable wear.

Ours look good enough to sit on the coffee table and now have been further developed with higher spec material on the bearing housings to allow for inconsistencies in the diff roller bearings.

If you ever need to take the diff apart you must take the pre-load off with a press and then the 3 screws will come out easily. You will have to remove some metal from gearbox and diff casings, but less than with the old Salisbury.

1950s design with 1990s engineering and technology - originally done by the inimitable Davc Hirons at Trannex, now under the EVO banner at Mini Spares Centre (www.minispares.com) following their buy-out of all the Mini/Sprite Trannex products some years back now. The only real similarity to the old Salisbury is the 'plate type' design - purely because it gives maximum frictional area, therefore most effective performance.

The cases are machined from steel billets, and all components manufactured to exacting specifications from high grade materials. On the road tests have proven that the bevel gear and plate pack are capable of absorbing 230lh ft of torque in front wheel drive applications. The cross pins are much more substantial than other types.

When most folk talk about limited slip differentials for the Mini, minds immediately turn to the name "Salisbury". Indeed many think that word covers any LSD for the Mini. This, of course, is not so. The Salisbury diff was designed in the 50's at a time when race cars were not sophisticated, tyres were usually cross-ply with limiting grip due to poor compounds, and tracks were more than "a little bumpy".
