A great deal of the torquing action of the engine is taken up by the stamped metal bracket that bolts to the firewall. A symptom of this is a sharp clunking sound from that area when you accelerate or decellerate. The ugly fix is to weld a large washer over the crack; the proper fix is to replace this bracket.
