Genuine Mini Spares standard performance cone utilizing 20 years of elastomer/rubber technology from our competition cones manufacturer. Only beeen available since 02/09/2020 and proudly made in the UK with 10,000 sold by 2023.
Original cone spring design technology is over 60 years old and needed modern scientific advancements and updating. DO NOT USE GSV1264 KNUCKLE WITH SPACER ON FRONT EVEN IF 1990-2000 MODEL WHICH HAD THEM ORIGINALLY
The last time Rover/Dunlop looked at the cone spring for any changes was in 1976 but previously had to negotiate the cross over of cross ply tyres and radial softer wall type tyres as fitted to all minis from 1973, plus the 1275GT denovo 12" run flats from 1974 that changed the compliance of the ride height and comfort. Also car weights/wheels changed over the years, from around 584Kgs in 1959 on 850cc by about 76kg extra on Cooper s 1964 and up another 25kg plus from the 1990's with 1275 engines, larger seats and extra trim. Our SPI 1993/4 was 698Kg. Our MPI weighed in at 732Kg yet still using the same FAM3968.
These performance cones will give stability to your suspension, decreasing body roll and giving consistent ride heights after the initial settling down period, which allows fitting of original alloy trumpets rather than adjustable suspension units such as hilos when the cars originality is to be preserved for increased value. BMC did originally play with different length alloy cones.
Most complaints about other suspension cones available is that they sink or sag after use, giving unstable suspension heights which in turn is detrimental to the cars handling. Already by 30/9/2020 multiple customers who had problems with alternative new cone springs losing height have fitted these with rave reviews of ride consistency. These should be fitted as a car set of four or at least in pairs.
Hilos or adjustable suspension might allow getting the correct ride heights but that means the hysterisis on each cone is affected and they are all working under different characteristics and limitations.
For the genuine cone springs from original tooling see
FAM3968We recommend fitting
GSV1118EVOknuckle joints, even on post 1992 cars due to how these super cones settle.
Please note cars will initially sit higher than standard with standard trumpets until the suspension has settled and are more difficlut to fit so Hilos are recommended if you want standard or lower then standard ride height out the box.
