Any Halfords? Look in your local Yellow Pages for motorfactors; they normally can either make them up or know of a nearby supplier. Or do an online order?

You can only get the pressed metal type ones now. I know you can get black & silver, not sure about yellow/black and white/black. Suppliers (even trawling through many online) will not produce the metal with raised black plastic digits anymore. I know that as I tried very very hard to locate a place to reproduce my 1978 GTs plates 3 years ago, and they must have been done as one of the last available. However, if anyone knows of anywhere that is dodgey enough to still make these old black plastic digit ones, please please please email me and let me know so I can get a spare set made up!

Number Plates
Hi there,
Does anyone know where I can get a new set of 'old-style' number plates made?
By 'old-style' I mean the raised-letter white and yellow ones you used to get in the 70's, not the black and silver ones.
Are they still legal ? I would much prefer to fit them than the new flat number plates.
Any help gratefully received.

Hi,
Number plates must be within the regs set out by the DVLA.
If you have a look on their website you should find the info you need. As far as I am aware, number plates cannot be the raised letter style.

pre 1972 cars can use black plates, post 1972 cars have to use plates that were of the style accepted at the time or of a later date. so pressed steel metal ones are of a style no longer accepted. if fitted to car of time its fine but i dont think they can be sold now due to regulations. doesnt stop u buying black ones for 'show purposes' and getting them resprayied to suit. it wouldnt be illigal if fitted to 70's car but to an 80's car it prob would be due to unacceptible letter sysle and lack of reflective backing. ud have to do more reserch i think for styles and dates accepted, not that a copper would know them.

number plate light
Hi, no idea what model my mini was, but I'm wondering the appropriate number plate light parts I need? See photo to identify the boot lid type. (The badge says 'Morriss 850' and was chosen because it fitted the existing holes in the bootlid!) Thanks!

Looking at the picture as close as I can, it looks a bit like a mk1 bootlid with the recess below the number plate. If so, the light you need is on this site as 83H335. The later bootlids had no recess below the number plate.
Hope this helps.

Personal number plate for sale
I am selling my personal registration number C8OPD. as I no longer require it. I purchased this number for my classic Mini Cooper which I have recently sold. I have paid the retention fee and assignment fee of £105 to the DVLA to keep the number on retention till Sept 2009. I will pay the further £25 to DVLA to transfer the number to the successful purchaser.
On purchase of this item I can start the process where the buyer will become the nominee on the retention document V778,this process will start as soon as payment is recieved.
Please note the V778 form states that this process,"Please allow 15 working days for the delivery of the new document".
The retention document states, "The assignment fee has already been paid".
This would be an ideal number plate for anyone who has a new or classic mini cooper.
OFFERS PLEASE...

Engine Number and VIN Plate Codes
I need help identifying what my mini's original spec would have been. The registration number shows it as a 1989 Mayfair with a 998cc engine, however when i looked up the paint code which is PMF the website showed it as being a paint code used from 1993 onwards. The trim code is shown as LCG however i cant find what this would have been. The cylinder head has a 12G202 number which shows as a 998 Cooper head, and the engine number is a WFM 1026/4 NE which i cant find much on, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

My source says that paint code PMF is Black, used from 1987 to 2004
http://forums.mg-rover.org/car-care-detailing-forum-145/rover-3-letter-paint-code-list-289950/
The 12G202 is definitely not a standard 998 head. It comes from a 997 Cooper or a 1098 Midget or an Austin 1100. I think it has larger inlet valves than the standard head.
The code WFM1026 is the casting number for the block, which as a 998cc A+ engine. The actual engine serial number should be 99H/nnnnnn or something like that.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for that the engine had another plate which reads ( 89HD80 108628 ) this is stamped on a metal plate mounted above the alternator bracket. Does this make any more sense? only thing the number is 89 not 99 like you suggested it would be.
Thanks again

That's definitely the engine number, bit it has to start with 99H, there's no such prefix as 89H. Are you sure that 8 isn't a 9?

I will have to double check, but it certainly looked like and 8.
Thanks again for the help
