Objects in the rear view mirror......!
Does anyone else find that when driving in a Mini your vision can sometimes be annoyingly hampered by the rear view mirror, especially when looking round left hand bends? What cunning methods have any of you used to over come this? Lower seat? Moving the mirror? Any suggestions? Thanks Chris

Rear View Mirror
Good afternoon, When I am about to go round a left hand bends and the mirror is obscuring my vision, I slide as far over to the right and look round. Not the best method, but it works as I am tall. The only othe option is to spend a fortunt on having a rier view camera and fit it to the dashbord. Would look cool though !! Regards Chris

rear view mirror
Depending on whether I have a passenger or not and how enthusiastically Im taking the corner (!), I tend to lean over to the left and lower my head so that i can see right across, under the mirror. Although I probably shouldnt associate myself with condoning this sort of behaviour! :D PS I use Corbeau GTBs, which I think might be lower than the stock seats

removing mk2 rear view mirror
Hi, I'm stripping the car ready for shell renovation. How is the rear view mirror attached on a '68 mk2? There are no screws visible and I'm loath to try and prise it off as 40year old plastic can be a bit brittle (and expensive to replace...)
Thanks.

think it was a plastic cover, and when you slide it down, it exposes 2 screws

thanks for the info. the smooth cover slides down with a little leverage from an electrical screwdriver. It reveals the 3 chromed philips screws underneath. It all came away nicely without breaking, has been polished and stored ready for the rebuild (about 2015 at this rate ;) )

ENGINE VIBRATION
I HAVE VIBRATION ISSUES THAT SEEM TO BE 1275 ENGINE RELATED. I CAN'T USE THE INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR, THE HEATER VIBRATES, AND THE RIVETS ON THE RADIATOR TOP HAVE BROKEN. CANNOT SEE ANY DIRECT ENGINE OR EXHAUST CONTACT WITH FRAME. ENGINE HAS 40K MILES, RUNS GREAT, USES NO OIL. HAD NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH ORIGINAL 998. ANY IDEAS?

I HOPE IT'S OK TO POST SOMETHING ON TWO DIFFERENT FORUMS. I AM HAVING VIBRATION ISSUES WITH A 1275 ENGINE CONVERSION. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS USELESS, THE HEATER AND DIFFERENT BODY PANELS RATTLE, THE RIVETS HAVE BROKEN ON THE RADIATOR TOP. NO DIRECT ENGINE OR EXHAUST TO FRAME IS VISIBLE, AND THE MOTOR HAS RUN GREAT FOR 40K MILES. ANY IDEAS? THANKS.

http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=9669921&uid=4614268&members=1 As you can see this mini has been cared for in the best possible way. All the parts above were purchased new and this has cost me far in expense of £6000. The paint is the paint it came with 18/19 years ago when it left the factory and has been cared for all its life. It’s never had a panel changed in its life either. The body is 99.9% rust free apart from a small amount of surface rust on the gutter about the size of a 50 pence piece. It is MOTed until Feb/March 2007 and taxed until August/September 2006. Insurance is cheap aswell… cost me £495 for a year 3rd party (fire & theft) in my first year of motoring with no no-claims bonus aged 18. I would prefer to sell this car whole at a price of £3,500 but I will also sell it for £3,000 with out the audio, which I feel is a fair price for all the time and money spent. ------------------------------ Contact details removed ------------------------------ Thanks for your time, Jam2004 (Tom).

burning oil
That's a fair bit of oil to be getting through, and if it's not dropping on the road it's surely coming out of the exhaust as a light blue haze which you might not be able to see in your rear view mirror but I bet the guy behind you can see it and smell it!
New rings may help, but it depends how badly worn the piston bores are. Only opening it up will tell. Also worn valve guides and seals will contribute to this.

Hey,
To be honest, I have absolutely no complaints about the car itself, all reviews seem to be good, and fortunately its made by a quality company. Unfortunately however in my opinion, it will never compare to the mini's of old :) I had a BM Mini attatched to my rear bumper for about 10 miles on the way back from work one-day, and as soon as I hit the windy country road, needless to say, there was nothing in the rear view mirror :P

What are they thinking?
I have a "100% BMW FREE" sticker in my back window. So when they behind me i can watch them in my rear view mirror some laugh some just look moody. but lets face it most new "mini" drivers are old or rich students. lol!!!

Mk1 Resto - Sunvisor fittings
Hi everyone,
My Mk1 is coming to bits piece by piece and i've come accross these sunvisor clips. I know that when i try to take them out the plastic is almost certain to just crumble away into nothing. Plus, the clips on the drivers side are missing.
I know these type of sunvisors were only on minis for just a couple of years. But does anyone know where I can buy some more of these clips??
(There are 2 clips for each sunvisor, to the centre of the windscreen near the rear view mirror. The other is above the door. So that the sunvisor can be brought accross the door)

1st day of driving and....
...im driving with my mate and he pulls down his sunvisor knocking the rear view mirror so as im going along (about 40) my right hand is pushing the steering wheel to the left whilst im trying to adjust the mirror. all of a suddon my mate says watch out for that curb, i smack into it and rub the side of the front offside tyre scraping the alloy and guaging roughly 2 10mm to 20mm wide craters about 5mm deep, luckily no canvas is showing which i thought there would be judging by the impact.
im really worried and annoyed. im suppost to be driving to brighton tomorrow for the big L2B and am really concerned.
can someone please tell me im just being paranoid or will the tyre explode going down the motorway???
