Seized top arm removal, spring stuck to trumpet
I expect you can get battery-powered angle grinders these days, or at least you could borrow a portable generator.

Polarity change
Relax Hugh! Dead simple, Change your battery leads over to Negative earth, take off the Reverse current relay cover, gently push the contactor closed noting that the generator will twitch ( the current will be trying to turn it over like a motor),release the contactor, you will now have re polarized the Generator for the new earth. Start her up and it will commence charging. All other services will carry on as usual. Only thing you need to be careful of will be your radio, you will need to check if you can change polarity ie to neg earth, failing to do this will blow all the transisters immediatly. regards

Correct Wiring Harness for 65 Aussie Deluxe
OK thanks for the reply. The regulator is the one that worked with the dynamo/generator. The last time I fitted an alternator it came with an inbuilt regulator and it meant I could remove the external regulator and by pass it (this wasn't on a mini though)
Cheers

Hello to all,
New to this forum and I am seeking some help with determining the best wiring harness to buy from Minispares. I am in Australia and have a 1965 MK1 Deluxe. These came with a single centre speedo and single speed wipers. I have added a cluster from a Cooper S that has speedo, oil pressure and temp. The car has a generator which I want to change over to an alternator. I also have the original MK1 turning signal switch with the green light on the end which I want to retain.
I have looked at the wiring harnesses available and think that that a 'Cooper S' to suit an alternator version should be OK. Is this correct? If an alternator is used, can I remove the large voltage regulator and throw it away or does it have stay?
I have looked at 5L672 which I think is the best option. Would like confirmation that this would be OK as it is coming over to the other side of the world!
Regards - Dave K.
