hi lo
Have you un-done the top damper nuts? If they are still attached and your tring to slide off the bottom there will be issues with space. Anyhow when i fitted hi-los a few months back i didnt take the damper off. Undo the top nuts inside the boot and slacken the bottom nut, the radius arm will drop and you can move the damper from a vertical to a horizontal position. When the radius arm drops enough the cone/trumpet will seperate quite nicely. The main trouble is when you try to remove the old plastic cup, Magazines suggest you pull them out, the reality, its proper stuck. two tips 1- old skool bodge style, heat a screwdriver on your gas hob untill its red hot, then run with it through your house to the garage and bodge it about. 2 -Slightly safer is to get a nifty kitchen blow torch, heat the cup a bit and it removes nicly.

Question about hi/lo and Rubber cones
I need to get new cones for the rear of my car, I have a set of hi/los which I will be fitting, my question is are the standard cones (FAM3968) the ones to use. Forgive my lack of knowledge on this. Steve

Absolutely impossible to do the fronts without the right tool. You can hire them, I believe, or buy one for about £30 from any decent motor spares shop.

Or see if any of the nice people in this forum have one they could lend you (I'd offer mine, but I'm in Hertford!)

is this the bar with 2 sets of threads, a tube and 2 washers, if so i have one and would like to know how to compress the cones in the correct way :-)

That's the one. You need to make sure you use the correct threaded adapter - 1 is imperial for early cars and the other is metric for later cars - post 76 I think but don't quote me.
Make sure the threaded part is screwed in all the way into the rubber cone - the threads will be very dirty and rusty so lubricate with plenty of oil and grease and work it up and down several times. If it's not screwed in properly it may strip itself (and the cone) when you apply the compression.
Once the cone is compressed enough you'll see the knuckle joint come out of its seating in the upper arm and you should be able to pull it away. However, the alloy trumpet will be corroded to the steel seating of the rubber cone so spray lots of WD40 and be patient.

C-STR644 Hi Lo adjustment issues
Hi, I'm hoping that some one may be able to help. I have installed a set of these C-STR644 Hi Lo' s on both the front and rear. I have also replaced the knuckles and cones all round and set the adjustment equally left to right assuming that the car would sit level.
BUT the car is sitting around 1 - 1 1/2" (25-40mm) lower equally on the right hand side on both the front and rear
My question is should, after installing theses Hi Lo's , I need to adjust more than a few turns to get the car to sit level as I am flummoxed as to why the whole car lists to the right ?? Or is this normal having to adjust this much to get the car to sit level ?
Any help or suggestions will be welcome. Thankyyou in anticipation.

I wouldn't be unduly worried about it. Set the hi-lo's to give the same ride height all round, and I bet after a few hundred miles things will settle down and you'll have to adjust them again.

Thanks, I was thinking much the same.

Help my new wheels dont fit!!
Hi, i brought some 5x12 superlite deepdish alloys from huddersfield spares after being assured they would fit without any wheel arch mods so i fitted them last night, boy did they look good! When i pushed the car back in the garage i put some steering lock on and was dissapointed to find they caught the front of both my plastic and inner wheel arches quite a bit! i am gutted as ive had to re-fit my old wheels and want to know how i can get round this problem without having my arches modified, some ppl say fit hi-lo's and higher the ride height or some say fit new rubber cones, i was gonna go with the hi-lo's as it seems the cheaper option but have had so many suggestions dont really know what to do for the best and also dont want to fit hi-lo's if its not gonna cure my problem also do you have to fit the hi-lo's all round or can you just do the front? like i said the wheels are 5x12 superlite deepdish alloys fitted with 145/70, R12 69T tyres from huddersfield spares. Please if anyone can help send me a reply, thanks for your time guys.

Coilovers Front
After buying my Mini I've just managed to get time to take the wheels off and check to see what I have on the suspension as the Mini is very low. Its got Spax coilovers at the front (looks like Hi-lo's have been removed) and Avo's at the back with Hi-lo's. Every small bump in the road feels like a 6" pothole I've just driven over and feels like something is bottoming out. In fact it looks like the front coilover brackets have touched the subframe. How do you adjust the Front height as I thought the Spax shocks had only Damping & rebound? and how do I identify what Spax shocks I have STD or lowered?

Suspension set up
I have a 1998 Rover Mini Sport pack that I am updating the suspension on. I want to install a “hi lo” suspension to properly adjust the ride height. I was not planning on replacing the shocks. Is there a set of hi lo’s that are recommended and are there any other parts that I need to properly do the job?

Hi - Los
I bought a set of Hi Lo's STR644 but when I went to fit them one of the bolt holes for the knuckles was too small and it appears the other 3 bolt holes are too big. I'm comparing them with a set of Ripspeed Hi Lo's with the same knuckles and the tolerence is so close its almost like an hydraulic fit. Therefore have I got a bad batch or are the tolerences that far out that the knuckles rattle in the bolt holes?
