998 exhaust manifold vs 1275 exhaust manifold
Hi
I am showing my ignorance here, but is there any reason why the exhaust manifold that came with the stage 1 kit I have installed on my 998 Mayfair will not work on a 1275 engine?
Thanks for any advice

manifold downpipe
my exhaust has started blowing and iv found its actually on a join. a downpipe comes out of the manifold and at the end its bellowed out to 45mm to fit the next peice of the exhaust system. can anyone point me towards that peice of downpipe with the end made to fit the pipe inside it? and what does lcb mean?!?!
many thanks

Fitting manifold to an automatic???!
My mechanic tells me i can't fit an lcb to my 87 mayfair automatic because it runs too close to the mechanical fuel pump and the kickdown rod on the automatic gearbox. I'm sceptical but who am i to argue with a mechanic? i've heard of a magic pipe that allows you too fit an rc40 to a standard manifold would the same thing apply?

1994 SPI intake manifold modification
Does anyone know what will happen if i remove the deflectors inside each side of the manifold? i am thinking that they deflect the air & fuel a bit more evenly between the inner & outer cylinders.

Long Reach vs Short Reach Manifold
We have a fresh built 1340cc engine with a DCOE 40 Weber, we are trying to diagnose a problem where it will drop Cyl 1 & 4 after about 14 seconds of Idle. (see other post in technical section) If forced to run on Cyl 1 & 4 (by removing plug leads to 2 & 3) it will idle on them but obviously only on those 2 cylinders.
Initially we suspected this was because the overlap on the 649 cam was too much, so we downgraded to a RE13 (Kent 276 variant) and the problem still exists. We suspect this is a issue with the siamese inlets and valve overlap, Cyl 2 & 3 taking the best mix of fuel and leaving the crap mix for 1 & 4.
We have chucked a 850cc head on it with standard ports and it did notably idle on all 4 cylinders (not overly well) and we suspect this is because the flow velocity has increased delivering a better mix to the engine.
Next idea is perhaps the Long Reach Manifold is not suitable for low RPM. I see they are advised for racing applications.
Can anyone tell me if the short reach are better for lower end of RPM? or is the reach only for heat reasons?

Missing inlet manifold plug
My 998 mini engine is fitted with a Torquemaster inlet manifold (part no.C-AHT770) with a servo take off hole on the top. The take off hole had a 5/8unf plug in it which has disappeared causing the engine to stop. I'm hoping that the plug has unscrewed itself back out of the hole somehow but the question is - can the 5/8 plug, (part no. 5-8UNF) be screwed all the way through the hole & drop into the inside of the manifold. I'm not sure if the hole in the manifold is threaded all the way through, or if it tapers towards the inside. Any info would be very welcome, as it will save me having to remove the manifold to check inside.

Update on missing inlet manifold plug
Good news! Whipped the inlet manifold off and found the plug in the inlet port in the cyl head! What a pain it was to get out!! Managed to pull it out with double sided sticky tape on my finger, got a new plug with a head on it and also loctited it in to be doubly sure it wouldn't come out again. Would advise buying the other plug off Minispares (part no. ADP210) and not using the blanking plug without a head (Minispares part no. 5-8UNF) unless using loctite!

which manifold?
Hi, my good old lcb is coming to the end of its useful life and I'm looking to replace it soon but I'm not sure which type of exhaust manifold to go for as there are several different types out there. My mini is a 1330 with stage 3 head and a 276 cam, I'm also using a hif 44 carb and I'm looking to sqeeze as much power as possible! Do I need to go down the large bore route or will a decent quality standard bore manifold do the job? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Manifold advice please
1984 Mayfair with a 998 Metro engine. Problem, rebuilt HIF fitted on a Metro MG type inlet, with 3 piece lcb, which i cannot get to fit without hitting the drivers footwell. Solution 1. Keep carb and inlet and fit a one piece lcb,but i have not seen them listed except for injected model. Am i correct ?. Solution 2 Fit standard cast manifold ,buy another carb kit for the HS4,and fit a conversion "magic pipe" to connect the the RC40 system.I would very much appreciate any suggestions to sort this out so that i can carry on with the restoration.

Hi,
I've got a Metro inlet manifold with a Maniflow free flow exhaust. This is always a bit of a conundrum to fit but is made easier if you release the top engine steady - can be like one of those Christmas cracker puzzles though.
For the Metro inlet manifold the flange is different in thickness by some ~40thou (~1mm) when compared to the Mini and so I needed to make some stepped washers to pull the exhaust and inlet down evenly.
Beast Regards

Exhaust blowing from manifold
Hello,
We can't seem to get my new standard exhaust to seal on the manifold. Blowing badly.
Any tips on how to seal it?
Thanks!

Have you got one of those clamps that's in two halves, which tighten around the joint?
I have found that it helps to put a jack underneath the exhaust pipe so that it's wedged firmly in place on the manifold before putting the clamp on. Make sure the mating surfaces are clean first, and use plenty of exhaust cement.

Thank you Tim. We have tried this, but it still won't seal.

All I can suggest is to take the manifold off and check the surface at the joint. As it's cast iron, it can rust or even crack. Make sure you've wire-brushed all the old crap off, then offer up the new exhaust and check that it fits snugly. You may have to re-shape the edges with a hammer.
