Woods and picket has a kit that is giving appx 10 % more according to them. Price is still £350 but I believe this is on exchange only. So you have to take into consideration freight of old kits from Swiss to England. jan

Sportspack
Hi, the sportspack flares will kind of fit any mini, I say kind of because if your mini is not a sportpack as std you will need to cut out/roll the wheel arches (so the radius is bigger) for the SP flare to fit, they also look a bit daft with anything other than 13 x 6 or 7 wheels on IMO. If you are going the SP flare route make sure you buy genuine rover items as these will fit and last better than copies, I believe they come in primer/raw and you colour-code them yourself. If you dont fancy all the work involved above the wood and picket (W&P) flares look a bit like smaller versions of the SP flares. Hope this helps.

Anyone know where i can find a replacement windshield?
To be honest mate, you'd be better off buying a brand new windscreen, because all new screens are laminated for safely.
You can buy a brand new replacement for around 30 quid from Somerford: -

Somerford Price Guide pdf link
Or there's even Wood & Picket: -

So it's up to you if you want a clear screen or a green tinted screen to match the other windows in the car?

Starter Problem - 1996 Mini Cooper
The last day before winter lay-up and when I tried to start up, the starter motor seemed to try to engage but then there was nothing but a sound like a billy stick on an iron picket fence. Could this be a solenoid problem or is the bendix gear not moving sufficiently to engage? Do you think removal and cleaning would help?
Thanks in advance.

12" to 10"
If youve got 12 wheels you CANT FIT 10 wheels in there place without fitting either drums (dont even think about it) Cooper 7 disks (only slightly better braking than opening the door while moving) Cooper S disks (as Cooper disks but add rubbing youre foot on the tyre) or aftermarket alloy four pot (absolutely stonking if rather pricey). You dont need to change the swivel hubs if youre going from 12 to Cooper S 7.5 disks but you do if for some unknown reason, youre fitting 7 disks. As for arches, 10 wheels would look very odd in sports pack arches - not because they are a bit too wide for the wheels, but the radius of the arch is too big. It would look like the wheels are too small for the car. Better to fit Wood & Picket type. Personally, Id stick with 12 or go to 13 as the choise of tyres for 10 wheels is very low and getting worse all the time.

Arches?
Hey Pickme, sorry to change the theme of the thread, but what arches are those in the photo in the how big can you go thread? They look wider than group2.... I would like some in that style to cover my 5.5 x 12 s as my wood n pickets are slightly too narrow looking now. Cheers, paul

insurance
Hi there, I discovered an interesting thing with insurance... When I was18 and looking for quotes i found that by adding my girlfriend as a named driver (she was 3 yrs older than me) reduced the premium by just over £150!!! Norwich Union are the cheapest ive found so far, but it did take them 10 minutes to understand that a set of Wood and Picket wheel arches were not in fact a set of non-standard set of alloy wheels!!!!! Take the Pass-plus as well - it does make a difference, as does your postcode, garage, no-claims, type of job you do (e.g. a part time job in a restaurant make you a higher risk as theres alcohol on the premises), and the excess. At the time my Mini was worth about £300 and my excess was £1200 - do the maths and scrap it after an accident. Good luck!

Modified Arches
12" x 5.5 ultralights will rub. Mine do at standard height but it doesn't seem to get worse when lowered.
I would recommend cutting back the same amount as required for 13" arches to save any bother later on if you choose to lower the car or fit 13" wheels. It's quite a task to cut, re-shape and repaint (very thoroughly repaint) the wings so it's as well to do it once properly than twice.
Standard arches should still cover the enlarged cutout in the wing but you can check this before you cut with the templates. You can get these free on this site in the Fitting Instructions section so don't give your money to someone on eBay for poor photocopies.
I've got group2 arches on mine and the cut away for the wheels doesn't cause any problems.
It's probably worth pointing out that Wood & Picket type arches are a no-no with modded metal work because they fix to the original lip, For the same reason, they don't work with 5.5" plus wheels because the tyres rip the arches off when they rub!

MPI ECU - Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?
Just been looking on wood and pickets' web site (www.woodandpickett.com) and under the "engine tuning" section it has:
Wood & Pickett are currently working on a Performance product for Injection Minis, which will considerably enhance the performance of your car like never before.....A revolutionary new product, to be announced soon!
Thats all they say though, the tease!
