Help with roller rockers and 4 pot Q!
Hi everybody! need a bit of help wrt brakes and have a roller rocker question. first off the brakes, i need to be able to stop a bit quicker and am converting to disks, i will be able to get hold of a standard GT 8.4 setup without calipers, what i propose is to put 4 pot calipers on instead of the original 2 pots jobs. is this a straight swap? can someone recommend some 4 pot calipers? i wont be using a servo, ive been told 4 pots will make the braking easier over 2 pots. i have been told roller rockers will add excessive wear to some parts on the head. can someone elaborate on this? does this vary between roller tip, full roller rockers etc.? i would like to put some roller rockers on, but not at the expense of the engine. i dont go home often so would like to get it right first time 1330cc 544 cam flowed 35.7mm/29mm head single 1.5 su at the mo but am going to SD Weber or split Solexes. any advice greatley appreciated cheers, rick.

Rocker cover / Fuel gauge problem
Ive just bought a 1997 mini. Ive noticed some oil spots on the rocker cover and it seems oil is leaking through the two bolt holes. When I checked them they seemed loose so I tightened them by hand only. Can anyone tell me if these should be like this or is there a specifc torque setting they should be tightened to? Also my petrol gauge seems to be out by about 1/4 of a tank (filled up and it was 3/4 full on the gauge). Anyone know how to fix this??? Thanks in advance. Matt

Exhaust fumes from rocker cover
Hi, I have exhaust fumes coming from my rocker cover when the engine is running. The head gasket was recently changed and this has been happening since then. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I thought it was oil at first but it is definitely exhaust fumes, it is as if the exhaust is blocked and it is all pouring out of the rocker cover filler cap. I took the breather pipe (or what I think is the breather pipe) and cleaned that out, I also had the fire trap and cover off the back of the engine block and cleaned that out but no joy. I read in the Haynes manual about an air pump, could this be the cause, if it is not working/blocked? The Mini is an 89 Mini City 1000. Thanks again for the help.

Titan rocker shaft & pillars
Does anyone know if the Titan roller rocker setup uses the std (size wise) rocker shaft. I want to be able to use the pillars from a Mini Sport set of rockers with a Titan roller rocker setup. Are they going to be compatible? Cheers

rockers
Why fit better springs if putting 1,5 rockers on? As long as they dont bind there will be no need. Id say that the standard spings will be sufficient with the standard cam. A spi wont rev more than 6500 anyway, and the increased ratio of the rockers will make the valve springs harder.

1.5 ratio rockers - fuel economy implications?
Im running an MG Metro engine with HIF44, K&N filter, stub stack, LCB, RC40 twin box, flowed head, cam timed in at 107deg, but still running it with the standard sintered rockers. At the moment Im getting an average of 30mpg. Driven in the same way, how much should I expect fuel economy to increase if I fit the 1.5 ratio rockers? Thanks in advance for your help

Absolutly no difference at all. Unless they are the very special forged 1.5 rockers from the works S, then they are all 1.3 ratio. Out of interest, how on earth is it standard to have a 1.75 carb on a 1995 mini?

swapping rocker switches for toggles
Hi, Anyone ever done this on a late model mini? I have a Morry Thou as well as my 99 Cooper and I really love the toggle switches on the Moggy. They are really tactile and theres something satisfying about flicking them on and off. I was thinking about replacing the bog standard rocker switches for the hazards, demister etc with either mark 1 stylie toggles or those chrome numbers with the coloured leds on the end. So, if anyone has done this or knows someone who has: a) was it difficult? b) is it worth it? c) does it look good? your assistance is gratefully accepted. cheers. binbag.

Rocker cover
Ive recently done my head gasket on my 1993 cooper (spi) and replaced the rocker cover with a alloy one ive used a cork gasket supplied in a kit i bought from minispares, but someone from a rover garage (well was a rover garage) told me yesterday that if its got a alloy rockercover i need to put a rubber gasket on it not a cork one, any ideas if this is true ive not run it fully yet but everything seems fine.

From my experience, the cork ones work much better, although I usually use two. I stick one to the cover, and one to the head, using RTV type gasket sealant. Makes a leak-proof joint thats easy to take apart, and the one on the head stops oil running over the edge when the covers off.

Hi there, Can anyone give me the valve clearances when fitting a set of 1.5 roller tip rockers to a metro 1275.... Its the first time I have used roller tips and was wondering could some one point me in the right direction. I have it currently set up at .35mm spacing is it .35mm for the inlets and .29mm for the exhaust? Help would be greatly appreciated regards Mark
