slick tyre pressures for racing
i'm currnetly running avon 13x7 slicks at 16psi for hillcimbs, this still seems to wheels spin even after spinning tyres before start. How low shud i drop the pressures?

i did think of that but surely if i slow down my reaction to the throttle i'll loose time ?>!?! and i am gna play with revs of the start, because at present i'm leaving the line at 7500rpm but do you fink 16psi is about right ?

16 psi allround and ive been told to maybe drop lower to about 14psi, and the tyre pressures after they cool are only 1 psi more than before where as other minis are increasing by like 5-10 psi. my next move is to remove any excess wait like passenger seat and smaller fuel cell, also sett up all the corner weights and get a quick shift, this wont make muhc tyre difference but ive got to drop another 6 seconds so everything counts yet traction is needed dreadfully! its weird cus as soon as i'm out of the spin it grips immensly no lock ups drifting, its a little twitchy but nothing a child prodigy like my self cant handle haha how can i drop 6 seconds!

mini spacers
aparently putting spacers on your wheels is not a good idea as the wheels nuts can come loose is this true

Clutch fluid in automatic mini?
I'd have to check on the clutch fluid thing - can't imagine that you need that - probably ATF if anything. I'll check and post it tomorrow morning if no-one has come up with the answer.
Screen wash is in the boot - where else?
Cheers, Jack
actually on earlier minis the washer bottle is up in the engine bay next to the wiper motor so that could cause sum confusion, but yes indeed, boot mounted on these later ones. and im guessing you dont need clutch fluid, only needs engine oil which doubles as gbox oil =].as every seems to have pointed out already =D

no brakes
i have a 1982 mini city with drums all around. ive recently put new wheel cylinders on the front as one was leaking. but now there is no pedal. its been bled 3 or 4 times now, so thers no air in the system. and all shoes are adjusted, but still the pedal goes all the way to the floor. the travel on the pedal was perfect before just wasnt stoping me aswel as i would like but now theres nothing......any ideas?i was thinking the bore on the new ones could be too big for the master cylinder to cope with, but carnt check with the old ones as there now in the bin.?

upgrading brakes
hi, im looking at upgrading my brakes from drum to discs on the front. ive got a complete set off a later mini (1985 i think). the problem i have is that some of the ball bearings have come out of the inner cv joint. how do you go about replacing these and are they called pot joints? thanks
Posted: Dec 13, 2010 09:29 PM
ok, thanks tim. yes it is the end closest to the gearbox. but one has completly lost all of its ball bearings leaving just the outside of the cage and the other has only lost one. so looks like i will have to replace them both. any idea if there hard to do?
